A man was injured in what appears to be gunfire on a Bolton street.
Police were called to Mercia Street, Deane at around 9.30pm on the evening of Thursday March 21.
The Bolton News understands a gun was fired and a man was shot and injured as a result, but police have said his injuries are “not serious.”
Chief Inspector Justine Topping of GMP’s Bolton District said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we try and establish the full circumstances.
“Extra neighbourhood patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in cars, and if you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.
“There was and is no wider threat to the public.
“A male was injured, although these are not serious injuries.
“At this moment detectives are investigating the matter; a patrol plan and extra resources are in place for the next few days whilst officers progress this.”
Earlier that same day, police have been called out to a disturbance around Cannon Street in Deane, near the Manchester Superstore at around 4.30pm and stayed there until around 6pm.
But as yet there is no evidence that the two incidents are linked.
No arrests have been reported in relation to the suspected shooting incident and a police investigation is ongoing.
Bolton Council cabinet member for stronger communities Cllr Rabiya Jiva urged people in the area to remain calm and allow the police to investigate.
She said: “Incidents like these are always deeply worrying for all of the members of the community.

“But I would like to reassure everyone that the police are investigating the incident and I know that they are doing everything they can to make sure people are safe.
“I would urge anyone who may know anything about this to please come forward and help the police with their enquiries.”
